iCaverns is a universal iOS application developed for a client that is a tour guide for the Carlsbad Caverns cave system. The app uses a custom authoring system to allow the client to develop new screens and multimedia content using user-friendly authoring tools. The app also includes utilities for creating high-resolution tiled maps of the cave systems, and uses BLE “iBeacons” to display locations on a custom map and play an audio description when the user approaches different rock formations. (The client, in partnership with the park service, will place iBeacon devices in the caves at the location of key rock formations, and the client will offer iOS devices for rent at the store in the park service building.
